~DRAWING & PAINTING~
"First you draw what you see.
Next, you draw what you know,
and only then will you know what it is that you see."
-Robert Beverly Hale-
This quote sums up the basic approach Bryce takes to teaching all disciplines.
___
Many of today's methods teach the first half of this concept but fail to go beyond and teach the student what it is that he/she is actually seeing. By visually breaking an object down into simple abstract forms, and retraining the right brain to take control and use its natural ability, one is then able to retrain the eye and remove many preconceived notions and symbols of how the untrained eye sees an object in nature. This simple process begins to teach the student to see objects in a new way, and allows the student to visually reconstruct an item in a more objective manner using the natural abilities that the right brain is suited for.
If you would like to read more about this idea, please read
"Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards
"If you think you are simply drawing what it is that you see,
you might be surprised to see
what it is that you have actually drawn."
