~MY PHILOSOPHY~

The act of commissioning an original piece of artwork can be as unique as the artwork itself. Therefore if you are interested in commissioning a piece, it is best to contact me directly so we can discuss all of the options available to you.

There are certain qualities that lend themselves to commissioned art. The client needs to understand and appreciate that the artist brings his own perceptions of the sitter or sitters to each piece of art. Also, please know that an original artwork is not a photograph of the subject but rather an interpretation of the sitter as seen through the eyes of the artist. An original work of art, be it a painting, a sculpture or a drawing, should capture the essence of the person, not just the objective resemblance that a photograph captures.

~PROCEDURES & FEES~

___

Below I will provide a brief guideline of some of my basic procedures, timelines and fees.

For portrait sittings I prefer to work directly from life. I do realize that many people just don't have the time to sit for several (between 5 and 8 sessions of three hours each) sittings. Because of this, I endeavor to make the time less demanding for the sitter by taking a number of good quality photographs during the first one or two sittings. I do like to spend some casual time with clients as well, in order to observe them and so we can get to know each other a bit. This aspect is particularly important to me as it helps me get a feeling of the sitter's personality.

Every commission is unique so pricing a commission has to be part of the individual process and a certain amount of flexibility is needed. Pricing a commission on a hard fast rule is much too limiting.

That said, I have provided a basic guideline for some common sizes.

Paintings:

Head & Shoulders: $5000-$8,000*

1/2-3/4 Figure $ 8000-$11,000*

Full, Standing Figure $ 11,000-$16,000*

Drawings:

$1,000-$2,500*

Sculptures:

Prices vary considerably based on size. Please contact me by phone or email to discuss further.

*Prices do not include travel expenses.
