Pixelization to improve objective color observation.

Squares 14" x 11" Artists Collection

The idea of tiling a painting was an exercise for my students a few years ago at a local collage. The idea was to use a photo editing program (Photoshop in this case) to pixelate an image then reproduce what color you see in each tile, it's a very effective color matching exercise. It can be a bit tedious but I think the students learned a lot about color, as did I. I rather liked the idea so I took this piece a bit further to see what could be done with it, beyond an exercise. I find the effects to be quite charming.

To give a little credit: I got the idea from my daughter when she did a similar project in high school- Smart kid.
